White Arnold & Dowd Lawyers to Serve on Multiple Local Bar Committees

White Arnold & Dowd Shareholders Selected as “Super Lawyers”

Super Lawyers rates outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The annual selections are made using a multiphase process that includes a statewide survey of lawyers, an independent research evaluation of candidates and peer reviews by practice area. Each year, no more than five percent of the lawyers in the Mid-South are selected by the research team for selection as Super Lawyers, and no more than 2.5 percent of the lawyers in Mid-South 40 years old or younger or who have been in practice for 10 or fewer years are selected as Rising Stars. The Mid-South Super Lawyers and Rising Stars will be listed in the December 2018 Mid-South Super Lawyers and B-Metro magazines.

Augusta S. Dowd Elected to Jefferson County Judicial Commission

Dowd, shareholder, vice president, and managing lawyer, has been elected by the members of the Birmingham Bar Association to serve on the Jefferson County Judicial Commission.  Dowd will serve a six-year term on the Commission.  In the event of a judicial vacancy in Alabama’s 10th Judicial Circuit, the Commission nominates individuals for consideration by the Governor to fill the vacancy.

Dowd has a long history of service to the both the state and local bar associations, most recently serving as president of the Alabama State Bar.  She chaired the Birmingham Bar Association’s Grievance Committee in 2009-2010 and was a member of the Executive Committee from 2004-2007.  Dowd has been named a “Woman of Impact” by YellowHammer News and a “Woman of Influence” by Alabama Today, and she is a fixture on a number of “best of” lists.  She has over thirty years of experience as a trial lawyer, primarily in civil and complex litigation and white collar criminal defense, and has consistently maintained an AV Peer Review Rating from Martindale-Hubbell.

Birmingham attorney J. Mark White elected president of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers

AUSTIN — Birmingham attorney J. Mark White was elected president of the International Academy of Trial Lawyers at the organization’s annual meeting March 24 in Austin.

The International Academy of Trial Lawyers is an organization of elite lawyers who are nominated and selected based on their demonstrated skill and ability in jury trials and in other court proceedings. Membership in the United States is limited to 500 lawyers.

“I am deeply honored and humbled for this opportunity to serve an organization that has done so much to promote excellence in the legal profession,” Mr. White said. “It is a highlight of my career.”

Mr. White has more than 40 years of experience as a trial litigator in civil and criminal cases, including white-collar crime, environmental, personal injury, antitrust, and securities law. He has been lead counsel in a number of high-profile trials, representing both plaintiffs and defendants.

His firm, White Arnold & Dowd P.C., is noted for its expertise in handling complex legal matters and crises.

Mr. White was inducted into the International Academy of Trial Lawyers in 2005, and has previously served on the organization’s Board of Directors, Chairman of the Admissions Committee, Dean, Vice President, and President-Elect.
